Made By Shweta Joshi (Discrimination and caste system post)

Explanation: The Caste System was a hierarchy created hundreds of years ago which describes people’s roles in society and their power over others. Although the segregation and violence against the lowest caste, Dalits, isn’t as bad as it was before, they are still discriminated against and treated poorly. I made this piece to show how Dalit children are often not given a proper education, are oppressed in their schools, and are often forced to sit at the back of the class. Each row of children represents a different caste, and as we go towards the back of the class the students become sadder, and have less school supplies and stationary on their desk to show the difference economically. I made this piece using colour pencils and acrylic paints.
